How it counts
The calculator counts every Monday to Friday between the start and end dates, including both dates, which is the usual convention for leave requests and project schedules. If you choose a country, public holidays on weekdays are removed as well. The holiday data covers 2026 and 2027: England and Wales from GOV.UK, US federal holidays from the Office of Personnel Management (using observed dates) and Singapore from the Ministry of Manpower.
The add business days mode moves forward from a start date, skipping weekends and holidays, which is how many contracts and couriers define deadlines like "within 10 business days". The start date itself is not counted.
Examples
- From Monday 1 March to Friday 26 March 2027 there are 20 weekdays; with England & Wales holidays the count is 19, because Good Friday (26 March) is a bank holiday.
- Adding 10 business days to Thursday 23 December 2027 in the US skips the observed holidays on 24 and 31 December.
Things to watch
Many workplaces have their own rules — shift patterns, half days on Christmas Eve, or regional holidays such as St Andrew's Day in Scotland. For holiday-heavy periods, check our UK, US and Singapore holiday pages. For calendar days, use the date calculator.
